Private Lives responds to tight production conditions, using minimal and flexible elements to reflect emotional shifts in the play.
The stage initially presents a pure white space, suggesting cleanliness, control, and emotional restraint, with relationships appearing ordered and contained beneath the surface.
As the location shifts to their apartment, the divide dissolves and the space settles into a unified, more intimate interior.
Red elements function as decoration, symbolising love, passion, and the warming of the relationship.
As the performance develops, these elements become more active through physical interaction, eventually suggesting conflict and moments of violence as the relationship intensifies.
