Drawing on the mythology of Tu’er Shen, the Chinese folk deity associated with the protection of men who love men, this 20-minute work-in-progress performance constructs a fragmented ritual landscape beside a pond.
Designed for rapid transitions, sculptural rocks of varying heights form shifting levels of encounter, while water is evoked through moving gobo projections. A reconstructed red costume with a bifurcated trailing extension references Chinese marriage rituals and the thread of fate, functioning as both garment and ritual object. Together, light, costume, and terrain create a compressed environment of queer intimacy, belief, and suspension.
